Researchers discover new therapy for treatment-resistant prostate cancer

 

  • "Some forms of prostate cancer are more challenging to treat and may not respond to conventional treatments.
  • Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer is a type of advanced prostate cancer that no longer responds to normal treatments and has spread to other parts of the body.
  • Researchers from the Institute of Cancer Research, London, have discovered this resistance may be reversed in some people by stopping white blood cells from being “hijacked” and pulled into tumors."

However, little is known about its domestication and use in these regions. In this study, ceramic residues from a large sample of pre-Columbian cultures from South and Central America were analyzed using archaeogenomic and biochemical approaches. Here we show, for the first time, the widespread use of cacao in South America out of its native Amazonian area of origin, extending back 5000 years, likely supported by cultural interactions between the Amazon and the Pacific coast. They may provide guidance into how to better manage altered states when they may be difficult. We clearly need more research to further study and understand this possibility."
